Islam– A Role Model for Communal Harmony
“Islam is a religion of peace. We are always believers in communal harmony and love. Islamophobes are the ones who want to ruin the mutual harmony between Hindus and Muslims.
When we provide relief aid to disaster struck areas, do we only help Muslims, or do we help anyone who is affected? We give to everyone who is suffering.
Whenever humanity is struggling, Islam is there to provide relief. We do not look at who is Muslim or not Muslim. We look at anyone who is in need, and we extend a helping hand. This is called a humanitarian religion. Learn the beauty of Islam; understand the humanitarian spirit of Islam. Stop the division and rivalry between each other.
Have you ever heard of minorities being attacked by Muslims? People with beards and caps, students of aliya madrasa, or qawmi madrasa, any member of Islamic organizations, whether jamati, hefazoti, ahle hadith, qawmi, aliya, have nothing to do with destroying temples and idols. Muslims help guard and defend temples. We are strong believers in mutual coexistence and communal harmony.
We are very respectful towards the Hindu faith. We do not criticize anyone or their beliefs. We support healthy dialogue and interfaith relations. Islam is a humanitarian faith. In our tradition, human beings are the best of creation. God honoured human beings unlike any of his other creation. Even when it comes to faith, there is no compulsion in religion. If you want, can you vandalize a Hindu temple? Can you force people to leave their religion? They are human beings with honour and dignity. God gave us free will. He gave us the choice to believe or to disbelieve. The decision is yours. Did anyone pressure you into Islam? It is a humanitarian faith—a faith of love.
Sometimes, people do not look at others as human beings. Before everything, we are all humans. We all come from the same place. Our father’s name is Adam our mother’s name is Eve. We do not want to cause division and discord. In the hearts of sincere Muslims, there is no division, no jealousy, no enmity. Our main asset is love—we want to win the world with love.
Once the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) saw a funeral procession passing so he immediately stood up. His companions said, “Oh Messenger of God, this is a Jewish person.” The Prophet responded, “Is this not a human being?” The Prophet rose out of respect and reverence for another human. Everyone is one. It is us humans that have created these constructs of division and disunity. Islam is an open and inclusive religion. Through the misuse and abuse of religion, race, language, and nationality, we have caused further divide between each other.
In Islam, there is no discrimination of any kind. Regardless of one’s wealth, position, authority, education, age, profession—everyone is equal in the sight of God. We need to close the gap of division and come together as human beings.
It is reported that when a group of Christians from the Najran region arrived in Madinah, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) received them and opened his mosque for them. He did not look at their faith and background but the fact that they were human beings. An atheist is my brother, a Hindu is my brother, a Buddhist is my brother, a Christian is my brother. Brotherhood is of three types: biological brotherhood, brotherhood in faith and brotherhood in humanity.
We are all from one source. From one pair—Adam and Eve. See? We are all one.”
